Peace in Chaos

Wondering what to make of the “chaos that occupies the news lately? I do. Just a short time ago the world seemed “right” in so many ways. There was no pandemic, low mortgage rates and affordable housing, low energy costs, stable world trade without supply shortages of goods and in most cases food (at least in our modern western world) and geo-political controversies may have been scandalous but did not involve open aggression and war. The capital markets reflected daily confidence in a seemingly sound underlying global economic peace.

A student of history would understand that times of ease and peace have cycled with troubled and turbulent times across decades, centuries, and millennia.  Pandemics, financial crises, famines, wars, and political discord are and always will be a part of the human environment.

Our human tendency amid chaos, is to long for a future time when a return to that place of peacefulness and calm reigns. I’m challenged at present, and want to extend this thought to you, that, while longing for ultimate peace, we should, also patiently live in the today, based on principles and convictions that do not change with the changing times. What do I mean? The presence of hunger, poverty, joblessness, murder, hate, greed and all the things that leave people in chaotic life is around us always, pandemic or no pandemic, economic stress or fruitful abundance, “good” markets, or troubled markets, and tame or out-of-control inflation and regardless of who seemingly runs the world’s political affairs.

Faithfully stewarding all of life; your time, wealth, skills, health, and relationships, for maximum impact is possible in the chaos and in the peace. Right now, work with excellence, shepherd your relationships, take diligent care of yourself, give generous gifts of time and money in support of your charitable causes to bless others and do anything else you are passionate and able to do with impact.

Our financial planning advice follows that pattern. We encourage you to be intentional to do what is within your sphere of control and shut out the noise and distractions that are outside your sphere of control as it relates to wealth. Don’t wait for a future peace to continue your faithful stewards’ journey. If you are struggling to stay focused on your stewardship journey, we’d love to help so please let us know.  We are so thankful to partner with you in good times and troubled times in your stewardship journey.

On a final note, our Stewardly Advisors team would like you to thank and/or pray for a service member as we celebrate Memorial Day. We are grateful for the steadfast commitment of these men and women to faithfully and sacrificially serve our nation in peaceful times and troubled times and steward well their calling to defend and protect.
